The City of Lafayette commissioned Little Things for their town’s first public art piece. They needed a temporary installation that would create momentum around a vacant lot, involve residents in imagining what is possible for the space, and showcase the power of the arts in community development— all aligned with the honeybee theme, of course.
Teal Thibaud worked with designer Petra Moraczewski and artist Alecia Vera Buckles to design and build a participatory installation that was fun and bright, and engaging. Participants painted in 320 small hexagons with the color of their choice (based on an engagement prompt) and we added the small hexagons to the larger more scultpural hexagons throughout the day. This organically created a photobooth backdrop where over 400 people smiled in front of during the festival.
