In collaboration with River City Company and the Chattanooga Parks Department, Little Things Lab was contracted to install temporary art for the pop-up SportsSpot. The initiative focused on activating the space under the Olgiati Bridge, and our involvement included the colorful murals surrounding the recreational space.
River City's temporary activation includes a pump track, roller skating rink, and pickleball courts. This project aligns with the One Riverfront Planning process, showcasing the area's future potential.
Our team was tasked with creating a festive, easily removable art solution to decorate the space. We curated paper designs that adhered to the bridge pillars using wheat paste. We then created a kit of parts for volunteers to install alongside our team. The result was a series of dynamic and colorful murals facing the park space, energizing the area and complementing the new recreational activities.
The Sports Spot proves how temporary interventions can spark urban transformation and bring people together. We love to see organizations like River City take the lead on piloting concepts presented in a planning process. This underutilized parking lot is now a community asset providing recreational benefits but also testing in real-time future development decisions that will impact Chattanooga’s Riverfront as well as downtown.
