In 2022, the Orchard Knob Collaborative hired Little Things Lab, a local placemaking consultancy, to work with local stakeholders to identify projects, and create solutions to address them. Funded by Parkridge Health System, this resulted in the creation of the Orchard Knob Collaborative How-to-Guide. Projects, organized according to relevance and urgency are described within the book and outlined for immediate action. From there, residents can use the information provided by to begin change and revitalization in Orchard Knob. The projects outlined below were identified in the How-to-Guide.
Orchard Knob How To Guide
Guided by the How-To-Guide, we partnered with the Chattanooga Design Studio, Parkridge Health Care and the University of Kentucky’s CEDIK program. Select students spent two intensive weeks studying Orchard Knob, using the Guide to focus their research and develop conceptual solutions.
At the end of the program, students presented their ideas to the neighborhood association. This instrumental process enabled the community to envision what was possible for the first time.
Projects from the guide are currently underway. Check out the recent Orchard Knob Elementary Crosswalk install and the neighborhood's new Gateway Signage
The final outcome of the students work was a public realm action plan that includes history of the area, site analysis, and creative concepts for some of the How To Guide deliverables.
